February Notes From The BoardThe fall/winter period has included many interesting discussions, including a renewed interest in having the Temple pursue a greener path. In December, Stephanie Love, from the Social Action Committee, proposed that we explore using more environmentally friendly cleaning products. Our meeting in January touched on an expanded list of products that included cleaning products, paper goods, food items and institutional supplies. We
also discussed focusing our purchasing on locally owned suppliers,
such as the Whole Foods Coop. The coffee drinkers suggested that we
explore Fair Trade Coffee via Alakef, which is available with a significant
bulk purchase discount. I volunteered to work with Marko to explore
new sources and new products. We will experiment with both the Seventh
Generation and Melaleuca cleaning products, both of which can be locally
purchased. We will also try to reduce or eliminate our Styrofoam plates
and cups, which are not recyclable and aren't biodegradable. We will
strive to reduce or eliminate Sam's Club purchases and look to acquire
those products from locally owned facilities. Our planned new heating
system also reflects our desire to minimize our energy consumption
with the installation of new high efficiency boilers. So, while we
enjoy winter fun and await the arrival of spring, we are busy thinking
"Green". Our thanks to the Social Action Committee for bringing
