This and That
We are planning a rummage sale in May. It seems a long way off, but the success of rummage sales
is based on the quantity of good merchandise there is to sell. PLEASE
start saving your rummage now. We cannot store items at Temple due to
the fire code, but we will look into alternative storage space and let
you know.

“Praise with shofar blast,
Praise with harp and lute,
Praise with drum and dance,
Praise with strings and pipe,
Praise with cymbals sounding,
Praise with cymbals resounding!
Let all that breathes praise God!”
From Mishkan Tefillah
Join us on the third
Friday night of every month beginning in February at 6:30 pm for a new
opportunity to welcome Shabbat with drumming, chanting and praying. Stay for the 7:00 pm service. Bring any instruments you wish to use to praise. All
chants will be taught, it’s free and everyone is welcome.

Yom Kippur Discussion
Please join us on Yom Kippur for an engaging interactive discussion. In today’s world we are confronted daily by the news reports everywhere about terrible things happening in our world. Things such as global warming, wars, famine, intolerance, hate, and the list goes on. How do we as individuals cope with such overwhelming wrongs that need attention? We are, after all, only one individual. Bring your ideas and your insights into how each of us can make a difference in our world, be it our small world within our family, or the larger world of our cities, states, countries, or universe. You will have the opportunity to experience ONE way to make a difference in you own life through “kavannah”—living with intention. This promises to be an interesting and fun way to pass some time with fellow congregants.
Ritual Committee
The High Holy Days will soon be here! If you have been asked to do something during either Rosh Hashanah or Yom Kippur services and have any questions at all about that, please call Kathy at the office or Mike Grossman at home (525-6243) or work (730-4213).
In order to hold up before the congregation some of the people who inspire and serve us, or to whom we would like to extend our support, we will again have several "group" aliyot.
This article is to notify members of the following groups that will be called to the Torah during the coming High Holiday services. If you are a Jewish adult member of one of these groups, remember to wear a tallit and a kippah and join the group in the recitation of the Torah blessings.
Rosh Hashanah, First Day
4th Aliyah - People who have recovered (or are recuperating) from a health crisis in the past year.
On behalf of the congregation, the Ritual Committee wishes to acknowledge your struggles and celebrate your return to (or towards) health.
8th Aliyah - Hebrew and Religious schoolteachers from the past and coming year.
On behalf of the congregation, the Ritual Committee wishes to appreciate your selfless dedication to, caring for, and educating of our children and their families.
Yom Kippur, Morning Service
5th Aliyah - Congregants who have had loved ones die in the past year.
On behalf of the congregation, the Ritual Committee wishes to extend sympathy for your grief and support for the life transitions accompanying your recent loss.

Shira Chadasha… a new song URJ Regional Biennial
Registration forms for the Great Lakes Council of the Union for Reform Judaism Biennial are available in the Temple office. The Biennial will take place Nov. 2-5, 2006 in Milwaukee. Exciting programming for the three day event includes workshops on topics specifically for small congregations as well as varied sessions on education, leadership building, social action, Israel, religious practices and more. Plus, a traditional, and not-so traditional, musical kumsitz and other entertainment.
It is exciting for us to have this great opportunity so close to home and we hope many of you will accompany Willie Portilla, Great Lakes Council President, to this exciting weekend. Stop by the office to get a registration form. There may be some financial assistance available through URJ, so let us know if you are interested.
Volunteers Needed: Lend a hand at the Regional Biennial
The Great Lakes Council – MFTS WRJ District 18 Regional Biennial is coming up soon. From November 2nd to 5th, we will gather at the Pfister Hotel in downtown Milwaukee for a long weekend of study, worship, and community. The program is set, registration is open, and we are now recruiting the volunteers who will help make this convention run smoothly.
Most of the volunteer jobs will take place during the convention weekend. Some examples include staffing the registration desk, helping meals run smoothly, assisting at workshops, taking photographs, and more. We also need some volunteers before the weekend to help assemble registration materials. This work will take place at our Regional office in Northbrook, Illinois.
Please join us for the Biennial and consider volunteering a small amount of your weekend for one of these jobs. It’s a great way to meet your fellow attendees and enhance the convention for us all.
If you are interested in volunteering or would like more details about what is involved, please contact the Biennial co-chairs:
